Neoclassical Commode, Northern Germany 1810

$46.95 $81.22
Neoclassical Commode, Northern Germany 1810 This elegant Neoclassical commode dates back to around 1810 and comes from Northern Germany. The two drawer commode has a beautiful mahogany veneer on top, sides and front with additional satinwood decorations on the top. The chest of drawers stands on slender legs and has very pretty brass fittings. The Neoclassical Style The Neoclassical style has its origins in the 18th century France. During the reign of Louis XVI, interior decorations and furniture designs were inspired by the design language of Greek and Roman antiquity. The excavations in Pompeii and following this, the discovery of antique decorations had a big impact on the artists and designers of this period. The Neoclassical furniture style features an unpretentious and elegant form language with often plain veneers, sometimes decorated with geometric inlays. Especially in Germany, the later phase at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century moves away from pompous decorations to a more humble and modern design, which eventually leads to the Biedermeier style. Details The neoclassical commode comes refinished and measures Height: 30.12 in. (76.5 cm), Width: 31.5 in. (80 cm), Depth: 17.13 in. (43.5 cm).
